When your dental crown is first applied, your dentist uses a strong dental adhesive to seal the crown to its abutment tooth and create a strong anchor that is intended to last through several years of use. However, if you experience oral trauma or have poor oral hygiene, the bond of the dental crown can weaken. Notify our dentist right away if your dental crown comes loose so that we can protect and restore your smile.

If you delay fixing a loose dental crown, you could be putting your smile at risk of developing further complications. If you are unable to visit the dentist right away, we invite you to take steps to protect the loose crown and its tooth to prevent further damage.

First, refrain from wiggling or poking at the area so that you don’t cause further discomfort or damage to the abutment inside the crown. If the damage was caused by oral trauma that also left blood or debris, gently rinse it away with lukewarm saltwater, but let Dr. Aria Irvani and our highly trained team administer all other forms of healing.

If your abutment tooth is still okay, it may be possible simply to re-cement your dental crown, but if the abutment is in poor condition, we may need to perform root canal therapy to restore the tooth structures so that you can receive a new dental crown.

Please give Aria Irvani DDS a call at 949-458-5858 right away if you are struggling with a loose dental crown in Foothill Ranch, California, and need to speak with a dentist.
